Okay I have a neglegted tank from Craigslist and this "thing" showed up in a shady area with moderate flow.
It has a tiny bit of green on the tips and orange shows up as well. The pics are poor and really can't convey WHAT this thing actually looks like. So it doesn't show how nice it looks. I am afraid too move it or change anything around it considering I've NO idea what it is. I should probably mention that it is smaller than my pinkie nail and that the tiny tentacles seem too move on their own and flow with the current. Hopefully someone can tell me what they think... I also have some really weird looking things that are too small too photo and only can be seen when you get the light right. They have a pink-flesh like speck that looks like an eye when you are far away and as you get closer it looks like little tiny eggs on the end of translucent tentacles of varying lengths. They fluoresce under blue light and have a ring of little tiny dots on their bodys look kinda like an airfield at night if the runway were in a circle.....around a pink lump of flesh.... Thanks for any help even just pointing in the right direction

Thanks! It would figure too be a pest considering everything else in my tank is...[emoji22] Oh well I just released 3 hermit crabs and an emerald crab that I've had in isolation worried that they may eat it... as its a pest they will surely leave it alone.

Wow thanks guys. The tank was in awfully rough shape when I bought it. Was being kept in a garage where it even lost power for a few days. It was completely covered in algae. I have had it for exactly 1 week now and little things are popping up everywhere. I spent about a half hour on that hitchhikers guide you showed me. So helpful! I scanned it quickly and believe the other thing I described was a bryozoan. I'm also sure that guide will come in handy regularly in the future.

Thanks all Diesel, saltyphish, Uwharrie, PaReeferJ, and saltyfilmfolks it feels better with a few experienced reefers seeing a hammer coral. So at the very least I will watch it grow and perhaps if/when it gets larger it can be identified.

What kind of little things is popping araund? Do you have pictures?
Well I have asterina stars. One thing that I have tentatively identified as a bryozoan. Its so small I really have been unable too get a picture. I may try later with my daughters Nikon. I found bristle worms. Something that looked like a cross between a shrimp and a water flea. A really interesting thing was about the size of the head of an 8penny nail that looked a clamshell but was hauling butt around the tank like a snail on meth.

Okay I FINALLY got that little critter with a clamshell shaped top shell. It has a soft snail-like body, it looks like 1 feeler antenna(??)in the front, slightly greenish flesh with small flecks of green in the edges, and can extend it's entire body getting narrow and tube-like making close too 2 inches long or hide his/her/hermaphrodite body underneath an impossible too photograph iridescent clamshell shaped topshell with a white tail-end. It seems quite fast, able too burrow in the sand almost exclusively coming out at night. Pics and hopefully someone knows WHAT it is??

It's been almost 2 months since posting a pic of "tentacles" and he & or she seem to be recovering nicely with what appears to be a mouth in the center? The tentacles can retract almost disappearing completely. Still look like a hammer?
