They are very personable, and quite hardy. They will eat coral pests, but also most other motile inverts. As they mature, they get more aggressive, particularly other wrasses. Like all wrasses, it can be a jumper.

I might second the fact that they can get very, very aggressive with time. He might be your last addition by force!

Beautiful fish!

Thank you guys for a little insight on this little guy! He is a beauty just hoping he doesn't become a bully to the rest of the tank gang [emoji15] .. I will definitely make sure to keep the lid on so we don't have a carpet surfer !

I have heard horror stories, but I have had good luck with my mystery wrasse for 4 years. The only fish he showed aggression towards was a very small goby I tried to add. I think he thought it was food. He is actually bullied by the other wrasses in the tank. I got rid of a melanurus wrasse because he was always picking on the mystery wrasse. He lived peacefully with cleaner shrimp for a year and then decided to eat both of them in the same day. He doesn’t hunt snails or crabs, but he will go after snails if they are stuck on their back.

I have a 57 Gal rimless. Mine was the oldest living fish in my tank, went away first weekend of August and he jumped :(. I picked up another very tiny one this past weekend, he's been extremely shy.

They are amazing fish! My ALL time favorite to watch. He wont become a bully, but if you add more wrasses or same size fish later he might be a little dominant.

He may not become a bully, but he very well may. I've had to remove a fair share of mystery wrasses from tanks do to attempts to kill tankmates.

I've added one about a month ago and haven't seen any aggression towards the other. He just seems to keep to himself
