I have a BC29 and have been thru a couple of skimmers.
The first was the tunze 9001 which worked well but every time you shut the tank off you have to remove the cup or it floats and dumps itself. Currently i have a CADlights pls50 elite in there. It works pretty well but it is hard to keep the level constant in it (i wish the adjustment holes were slots) and the bubbles could be smaller with an impeller mod but it would let bubbles out at that point.

What i want to do is make a recirc skimmer (so the level will stay steady as it is in chamber 2)
And use a higher performing pump to get better foam action. Sicce micra venturi or i have an eco 135 plus from nano reef systems with their mesh impeller.

i have a 40gph pump i could use to feed it.

Obviously the issue is space, I actually purchased an old Sapphire BC29R skimmer but its a monster and my media basket would have to go. So i did a quick sketch of what i would like to do and would like to get some opinions from the skimmer gurus on how bad of an idea this is. I would do it out of pvc or something cheap first then out of acryllic after tuning the height of the body and water level in.

1 square=1/2 inch in the drawing. so its a 2.5 inch body

Trying a quick and dirty to see if it will work at all, if I make one to use long term I would get a bit bigger and thinner tube for the pump outlet on the inside and make a diffuser of some kind.
