Hello! We have a 1.5-gallon reef tank and were trying unsuccessfully to find a 10- to 20-watt heater that can be read from the R Pi. The one we have is great, but I just want to have a little more control and information from the heater. :)

Which heater do you have right now?

PNW sells a 10W controllable heater that fits perfectly in pico tanks.

Maybe look at a beta fish heater. They are usually around 4.5-6 watts and do a good hub.

You cannot power the heater directly with the raspberry pi's GPIO. You can only control it by power switching.

I can't give specific product recommendations for liability issues since I am representing a company, but you could probably have temperature probes connect to your pi and control an outlet.

It might be easier and safer to just purchase a regular heater with this built in function, unless you have something very specific in mind.
