NanoReefy's Two 13.5 Reef Tanks

So this is my first build ever when it comes to reef tank/fish tanks well really any aquarium ever. I started this tank four weeks ago. Maybe a day or two longer.
Tank build items:
Tank: Fluval 13.5 Gallon Evo XII Marine Aquarium Kit
Sand: CaribSea Arag-Alive Fiji Pink Aquariam Sand, 20 lbs.
Rock: CaribSea Life Rock, 20 lbs. (between both tanks)
Water: Imagitarium Pacific Ocean Water x6
Heater: Aqueon Preset Aquarium Heater, 100W (1 in each tank)
Skimmer: Fluval Sea Mini Protein Skimmer (1 in each tank)
Thermometer: Imagitarium Digital Aquarium Thermometer (1 in each tank)
Power Head: Sicce XStream 5000 Wave Pump, 1320 gal/hr (not currently in as it seemed to have to much power and no way to turn down flow)

I used API Quick Start, 4 fl. oz. to start the cycle in both tanks.

FISH IN TANK ONE:
One Orange and white Clownfish (From Petco)
Two Orange, Black, and White Clownfish
CLEANUP CREW IN TANK ONE:
Assorted Red & Blue Leg Hermits x 4 (One passed one day into the tank)
Scarlet Reef Hermits x 2
XL Nassarius Snails x 3
Astrea Snails x 3
Cerith Snails x 3
Turbo Snails x 1
CORAL IN TASK ONE
Random Zoa from Petco (They had no clue)

TANK TWO

This tank also used API Quick Start but was not started till about three weeks ago.
Both tanks right this minute are running the stock filtration the AIO came with (foam filter with Carbon media and BIO-MAX) until I learn what is the best way for filtration or what the best stuff to use.

FISH IN TANK TWO
Two Black and White Clownfish.
Also no cleanup crew in tank two yet.
No Coral obviously yet.

SO this so far is my build/my babes! I know I have SOOOO much to learn and I hope any and I mean ANY advice I would gladly take. I will post updates as they come!

Pikachu! Rockscaping looks great! I couldn't tell what you're running for lights, but they look fine. How's the evaporation without the lids?

Pikachu! Rockscaping looks great! I couldn't tell what you're running for lights, but they look fine. How's the evaporation without the lids?

Oh crap I forgot to add my lights. They are AI Prime's 16HD and thanks. I was worried they was to steep for corals to sit on over time. So far the evaporation from the tanks are not as bad as I though it would be. They still do somewhat though.

Added one little Bubble Tip Anemone to tank 1 yesterday. I been looking for tips on what is best to feed this little guy. Chopped silversides, worms, Shrimp, Krill, ect. is recommended. I guess will see what the little guy likes best.

Also got my RODI unit today. More pics of that to come.

Added my RODI unit this week. Found it on amazon pretty cheap. I hooked it on the back of my sink in my kitchen. Also found this 20 gallon can. For now till I can get a ATO I just hang the tube into the can till it is full.

Looks really good!
Do be careful of petco, as most tend to carry sick/dying fish and corals.
I don’t recommend 3 clowns in one tank, the odd fish out will be killed.
Other than that, it looks like you’re on a great track!

yes i learned this the hard way. I had a death of my smallest clown about a week ago. I dipped the coral I got from Petco also before I put into my main tank. Thanks for the info though. I have heard tales about sick fish from there from others.

Got some new frags from the WWC sale from last weekend. They seem to be doing well (this being the 3rd day in the tank). Also got a 6 hole frag rack the other day.

Emergency question. Was at Petco. Seen a Anemone I liked and had room for. What do you do when it won’t latch on to any rock work? It’s like he is paralyzed or something all he wants to do is float around the tank. I drip acclimated him so I am not sure what I am doing wrong here in my other tank I have one also and never had this problem. Can someone please help me out here?

also I have my lights and filtration turned off because where he is floating around in the tank not wanting to latch on. so I thought if I turned it all off to let the water stand still my help him latch to something but it is not he is just floating. yes I’m sure this is a noob question. Edit: Sorry was using talk to text. lol

Try placing down by a rock. If healthy it should be able to grab on its own.

After turning off the pump and some nail biting moments and wild thoughts, he finally latched onto a rock. lol It took about 30mins of free floating and me helping push him down.

Thanks, I have noticed that this is something in this hobby that is very easily done. I am trying to slow it down a notch.

Had to cut lights off on tank 1 due to a bad outbreak of hair algae. Also excuse the crap photo but the pic is took right around lights dimming for the evening. Not sure if this is a algae bloom in tank 2 or to much flow. I do know this..it was murky before I added my wave maker. Any ideas or help here would be greatly appreciated lol other then this issue just a patient wait game still. No new live stock.

yes, got carbon, foam, and media in slot 2. I turned the lights off completely to both tanks now.
