I think alot of people don't realize how close we came to not having the Everham/Gordon era. I used to watch Everham race at the now closed Flemington Speedway. The one night I was there he crashed into the 4th turn wall so hard it nearly killed him. He hit so hard, I was sitting in the 1st turn and could hear the impact. If I remember corectly he was in the hospital in a coma for nearly 4 weeks. After he recovered he quit racing and took the job at Hendrick's.

Will be interesting to see what cars he develops for the new series he and Stewart created. Hopefully it will be a wake up call for Nascar. I wasn't expecting this sport to treat long time drivers the way they do and replace them with people barely able to see over the dashboard.

Many years ago I went to Texas Speedway when it first opened. To sit in the stands with the sound and being able to watch how fast the cars are on the open straight away was impressive. Watching on TV I get nothing from it. Would I go back to Texas Speedway, I will one day.

It is a lot different. My wife never liked watching racing on TV. However, one day my buddy had to cancel so I had a spare ticket to Sears Point. I was going to ask my brother in law when my wife said hey - that is right by Napa right, and I was like yes. It is. She said cool - lets make a weekend out of it. I didn't think she was serious but she was. She had a blast and said something similar.

It wasn't until she was part of the crowd walking around, people watching, and hearing how loud the cars are as they go by. Also the smells she said. In any case we went for a couple more years after that. A lot of fun. Never liked the change they made both from a race point of view and actually driving on the track. I would take my Mustang there once in a blue moon for HPDE events. Fun track even at the beginner level.

All my life, Allisons, Earnheardt Sr. and for the last handful of years HARVICK #4, this year he gets his second championship! FKB18!

I grew up at the local short tracks of LINY and NJ....Freeport, Islip, riverhead and Wall in NJ my father was a Modified crew chief for one of the top teams back in the 60's and 70's, the car resides in Ray Evernhams museum awaiting restoration. Love the sport!

I watched it for a few weeks when there were no other sports on and didn't mind it. I agree with the posters that said going is much better, it's tough to get into while watching on TV. I went to a "minor league" race as a kid and had an awesome time. I live ~30 minutes from Talladega but have never been because of the stories I've heard about the atmosphere.
