I just got Nassarius snails and my largest one keeps climbing the glass, hanging around the surface of the water for a minute or two, then turning around and falling down onto the sand.

Is this a sign of starvation or normal behavior? I fed pellets to the tank since there are no fish yet, but they don’t seem to hunt it down.

Salinity is 1.026 too, with no nitrites and nitrates last I checked.

My nassarius did this quite a bit the first few days in my tank. Now they do it occasionally when there's food on the water surface. I think they're just exploring. Could be they smell food but don't quite know where it is yet.

My nassarius climb the tank on and off, sometimes staying there during the day and going back down and under the sand at night. Since your tank is so new they may be searching for food. You can throw a tiny bit of flakes into the tank. Take a pinch of flakes and put your hands all the way down and release it and they should come up to feed. Turn off your pumps/powerheads first to give the flakes a chance to settle for them.

Fair enough, I fed more pellets today, but they are just sleeping in the sand now. I think it was just new tank jitters. Today, it's the cerith snails turn to cruise the glass. Maybe this is just from me being paranoid about finding the snails dead out of the tank when I wake up one morning.

I agree with the comments/experiences above. (Everyone's favorite snail, too, I bet!)
Yep, I love the zombies…remind me of my boys when they smell food! 😂😅😂
