Need a lil help here!

Hey guys-
So,long story short,my 125 chrashed on me,nothing left but 15 pieces.Sooo,what does that mean,well,to me it means new tank time!

So,Im buying a 60 cube.I want this to mainly be SPS since I really like rare montipora's,and acropora's.But,I have the same passion for chalices,polyps,and other LPS and a couple rare softies.

So,here is my question,how do I keep my water clean for my SPS with out making it so clean that my LPS will not like it and slowly wither away?

I would like to do some typ of Carbon sourcing(Vodka/Zeovit)but,I this really makes the tank water clean,so,LPS probably wouldnt do so good.

So what is your advice to keeping SPS,LPS,and Polyps together?

In my opinion, you don't have to have super clean water to keep SPS, but it does help. Dosing carbon had a bad effect on some of my LPS, such as acans, and some of my zoas just disappeared on me because of it.

If you want to do all three, just stick with stability, dosing calcium and magnesium, and you should see good growth on SPS, while being able to keep zoas and LPS.

what is you did the vodka/carbon dosing and target fed the lps directly? would this work?

ive heard of one person trying this,with results,but the water chemisty still matters doesnt it?As far as how clean the water is?

Wow, sorry to hear that. Do you have any idea what might have caused the crash?

Power surge caused the heater to bust,and my ATO went crazy,putting in alot of FW,the tank was 96 degrees and a salinity of about .17,fish were on the bottom not looking so good,but all fish look good so far.They are kinda slugush.

HOLY CRAP! That is crazy! So sorry! But sounds like a good excuse to scrap the tank and get another one to me :wink:

I would think water clarity is still going to play a big part in keeping the LPS and zoas happy. I had some zoas that lived right through vodka dosing, while others perished. My acan shrunk down to nothing during vodka dosing, but started to open back up when I was thinking about stopping.

For me, the biggest increase in growth I got was when I was dosing MB7 and Magnesium, on top of my kalk reactor.

I keep a mixed reef as well; I utilize a large skimmer, vodka dosing, a refugium, activated carbon, and GFO. I use halides supplemented by t5s. The water is very clear and the tank is very well lit. I have no problems with keeping the mixed reef, I will only place lps and zoas on the bottom 4" of the tank because they don't need the light and they look the most natural IMO. I think the biggest problem you'll run into in a 60 cube is how to aquascape it and keep the animals happy in a organized way. So personally I would reccomend you find something that's more of a rectangle and over 24" from left to right. That's just from my own personal experience with a 60 cube and having a mixed reef. HTH
