need an ID

I got this tiny little frag about 2 weeks ago. Thought it might be a cyphastrea, so I had it in lower light. It wasn't opening much so I moved it up top and it is much happier (until I found it upside down in the sand). I better get a positive ID on this so I can glue it down and keep it from sand diving. I will try to get a pic of it open tomorrow. It has a light purple/blue base with pink polyps and it definitely should color up more. Im pretty sure they fragged it about 30 seconds before i walked into the store lol. sorry for the yucky pic, but it's the size of a thumbnail and I didn't feel like getting my hands wet for the 30th time today lol. I'll try and do better tomorrow.

After looking at pics of sand dollar monti and porites mine definitely looks more like the pics of the monti. Could you elaborate please? I've never been any good at telling the difference between a lot of the sps, especially the entrusting kinds. After 5 years I am just now starting to appreciate sps lol.

The depth of the polyps are deeper than on Monti's. Attached is a pic of the Sand Dollar Porites. You can see the depth of the polyps in the surface of the coral. @evolved may be able to give you a better description.

Yeah, that one got messed up years ago, and people still know it as a monti. It is, in fact, porites.

The technical differences in the genera come down to the skeletal structures within the corallites. Porites have obvious skeletal structure within the corallite, whereas Montipora are really just an empty socket. Also, all species of Porites lack the surface structure that many Montipora have - basically Porites always look "smooth".

Ah gotcha. I kinda like the idea of it being a monti because those do well for me lol. I don't recall ever having any porites in any of my other tanks. But I have mombrain these days so I don't remember anything lol.

While I have your attention (and don't feel like making a new thread lol) could you help ID these terrible pics?

It's in a very awkward place for viewing but it seems to like the location so I don't want to move it. I'm thinking lepto because of the maze like pattern, but I am often wrong lol.
