So im not entirely new to to having these guys as i saved a dying condy from petco that was bleached and it made a full recovery and is 3 times the size. Recently i got a pretty good size RBTA from a really well off store thats well known in the reef community and they handle it proplery by using bone cutters to get the rock it was attached to fragged down for me to take the RBTA home so i rule a damage foot out of the issue. As soon as i put the guy into my tank he made a straight B line into a cave and hasn't came out since. I thought maybe my lighting is too bright since i could tell mines brighter then what the store used so i lowered it down to just 30% across my blue's on my AI prime down from 82% *due to i have a mix reef tank both SPS/LPS which all are doing well and thriving in*.

I checked my tanks metrics and everything seems to be in line so i dont know whats going on.. is this a normal behavior of a RBTA?

*note i only kept a condy nem before*

RBTA's will do that most of the time when first introduced mine hid in a cave for almost a week, than came out found a spot it liked and is doing well. I would give it some time and keep an eye on it they are pretty hardy and tend to do well when they find a spot they like.

How long have you had it? Some do take a little while to warm up to their new home. I got a green BTA a couple weeks ago and it has retracted fully into my rock a few times. Always pops back up eventually. The goofy nem will crawl THROUGH my rock instead of just traveling over the surface, its like slow motion whack-a-mole

Please post water parameters of your tank.

Do you know the parameters of the tank at the LFS?
i dont know their water parameters.

salinity- 1.023
temp- 76
PH-8.0 *have a hard time keeping this around 8.0-8.2*
Alk- 11 dkh
nitrate- less then 1.0 * dont have a hanna checker for this using redsea*

only 2 days i just dont want a repeat of my early reefing days where i was foolish and didnt use online resorces and got a RBTA early into a tank life cycle and it died within a few days because it never came out.

Your parameters are kind of all over.

Alk is sky high

Cal is low

PH is irrelivant in this case (fine at 8-8.2)

Temp is ok, i would shoot for 77

Salinity is low, shoot for 1.025

Nitrate is ok

Phosphate is high, work on lowering this to below .1

What are you using to test salinity and what salt mix do you use?

Do you hand dose anything into the tank?

the problem there is the first nem was most likely upset about the "newness" of the tank, how long has the tank been running now? I don't subscribe to the "you have to have a tank running for 6-12 months before you get anemones" camp, I have a rainbow that was placed in a 3 month old tank and my green was placed in a 2 month old tank and both are doing great

Stop hand dosing all for reef.

Do you mix your own salt? What salt mix?
mix it to 1.025.

You should get some individual elements to help balance your tank out before continuing all for reef.
( cal, mag, alk) esv bionic is a great product.

Let your alk fall naturally while maintaining your calcium level.

Do you know your mag level?

Ever BTA I’ve ever added hides for 2-3 days.

don’t mess with him just let him be.

Don’t do anything to you water as what he’s trying to do is adjust.

If you make changes you’re going to bother him.

As long as before you added him you’re pretty sure your parameters where in check he should be okay.

give him 2-3 days.

Cal is a little low but not low enough to kill a nem by any means.

don’t chase numbers please

just let the dude be for 2-3 days

your params could be a little more on the money yea.

but right now isn’t the time to fix it.

Give it 2 weeks.

I have an auto doser.

I have it hooked up and programmed.

I turned it off.

i like hand dosing better.

nothing wrong with hand dosing.
