Apparently the urchins Salmacis bicolor and Diadema setosum eat them?
That was suggested in the other thread too:
He has great detail on the stem structure. Not microscopic. But clear stems and branching polyps.

Thank you very much for all the suggestions. I haven't visited the website for a long time, and it's very helpful to see everyone's analysis. Now they have almost completely covered the tank, so I plan to start over as there's no other way. I will soak all the stones in fresh water for 24 hours and then let them dry in the sun for a week before starting again.

Hey guys, after all this time fighting these dang things, I gotta be honest with you - the problem is STILL not solved. I've tried massive physical removal, scraping off every single one I could see, but some of them have grown deep into the crevices of my live rock. They have these super thin root-like structures that seem to have spread throughout the entire tank. At this point, I'm starting to think the only solution is to tear down the whole tank and start over.
Here's the crazy part though - one time I forgot to do water changes for a really long time, and my KH dropped down to like 5-something (didn't even test Mg and Ca). I noticed these hydroids started dying off massively, turning white and just... dying. But here's the problem - my corals couldn't survive in those conditions either! So I had to fix the water parameters to save my corals, and guess what? Those freaking hydroids came right back to life!
I mean, seriously... what did I do to deserve this?! Hahaha

I had a different type of hydroids all over my tank, and a juvenile Imperator angelfish slowly took care of them. The problem is that he is not considered reef safe. My green trachyphylia had to go into "protective custody".
