Need help !! Sand bed covered in brown stuff .

So been have this problem for about a month . I do a 20% water change every two weeks and three days later this brown stuff covers my sand bed . Is thag Normal ? I don't over feed I feed once a day . Does it need a better flow or a clean up creaw . Can anybody help me .

Sounds like you have a very young tank, if that's the case from the description you might have diatoms, it's normal for a tank that young and will pass... A clear picture will aid in the identification of what you have.

But my tank has been up for 2 years and 5 months is that still two young ? I'll take a pic of it when I get home .

Sounds like Dino, do bubbles form in it? If so it's tough stuff. Increased flow on the sand bed usually helps rid anything on the sand bed.

well last week I moved my rock around and I did moved the sand around idk if that's were it's coming from . I tested last night and I got cal 450 alk 8.6 mag 500 and ph 7.9 .

sand beds are notorious for trapping waste and probably the source.

Yeah I think that's what it is cuz I did move the sand bed a lot

I would agree, it can be released when ever you aquascape the entire tank as you are upsetting the ecosystem. There are several ways to work on getting rid of it. One way to to outcompete the bacteria for its foods by adding MB7.

It may mean you need to replace the filters in your RO/DI since it happens shortly after a water change. Probably silicates getting through.
