Need help with fish choice JBJ45 Gallon

Hey all,

I just lost my purple Firefish of what seems like old age as there was were no signs of an infection or paraset, just seemed like he was exhausted and gave up the ghost. Rather than replacing him with a another Firefish, I might try and go into a bit of a different direction. I currently have a bonded pair of Mocha Vincci Clownfish, a YWG with Tiger Pistol Shrimp, A Carpenter Wrasse and that's it. I was getting ready to add a forktail blenny but sadly the one I ordered showed up dead. That's another story that has got me quite ticked off at the site I bought it from. I'll just say judging by how the bag "popped" inside the carton it was clearly overfilled and the seam busted...not Fedex fault. Anyway I need some suggestions on a replacement fish. I plan to get another forktail if I can find one so that leaves my firefish slot open. I know it's risky but I'm toying with an idea of a captive bred orchid dottyback. With the firefish gone I feel like the other tank members will be able to hold their own if it does get a "little" agressive. Other than that I'm sort of out of ideas. Not a fan of Assessors. I'd like something with some color. Any help would be appreciated. The tank has been up and running for almost a year. Thanks.

The mandrin is on my list as the last fish to add but i don't have the coepopods to support it and other than an autofeeder can really do multiple feedings per day :( Never really though of the Chalk bass as colorful. The ones I've seen in the LFSs are all a silver with brown strips.

How many gallons is the tank? Here are some ideas for you:
Royal Gramma or blackcap basslet. The orchid dottyback is one of the more docile species, but the gramma and basslet are much more passive.
Starki damsel. One of the only damsels I would recommend to anyone.
Marine Betta. One of my favorites of the name didn’t give it away. I had my last one for 17 years, and it never touched any small fish or invertebrate. Ghost shrimp weren’t safe though.
Any anthias
Any cardinal fish
Midas blenny

I would stay away from angels since you have some fleshy LPS. Depending on the size of the tank, you may want to consider a tang.

Wow that opens up a lot of possibilities. My tank is a JBJ45 Gallon Cube. I thought adding damsels with clowns was a definite no no. I was going to add the Forktail so not sure, as much as like the midas, adding another blenny would be a good idea. Won't they fight?

Yeah, I mentioned the Midas because I didn’t know if you were still set on the fork tail. I wouldn’t do both.

I’ve had damsels and clowns together plenty of times. Starkis are one of the most docile damsels. Springeri damsels are also docile. I would have greater concerns that your clowns will take over your tank. Clown pairs can become terrors in small tanks especially once they spawn.

Ok, scratch the idea of a tang unless you have plans in the near future to upgrade. In that case, you could probably get away with a small juvenile for a while. The tang police will come after me for that one.
