Need help with sump design

Guys need help.. just got a free custom sump but makes too much noise when water enters from skimmer area(1st compartment) and hits the water in the refugium area(2nd compartment.. advice?

Not sure what the exact cause of the noise is? If the holes are too small and it's causing noise when the water comes through, you could always re-drill the holes with a larger size bit to make them bigger?
