its not mine but he's not sure what it is it is growing to big and shading his tank

+1 on Stylophora, likely S. pistillata. As for fragging it, just snap branches off, or use bone cutters from a fragging kit to cut them for a cleaner cut, and then glue them to a base or piece of rubble rock.
 
Always nice to get more opinions. They have a thicker skeleton but should tolerate him cutting it fairly well.
