Hello,
If you know me you know I've been looking forward to a white tail bristletooth tang for a very long time. My LFS got one in today. What are the chances I buy it and it dies the next day.. or other complications arise? My tank is healthy it's been up for 6 years. Haven't been able to grow coral but Ive been able to keep my fish alive for a long time. What do y'all think?

You want to acclimate these well and quarantine as they are prone to ich. I have one that is slow to grow but very healthy and bright in coloration. It can be a jerk to new fish but quickly goes back to good behavior

They like algae but dont depend on it for diet. Mine has a favorite- Flakes but also feed LRS Herbivore Frenzy, mysis shrimp, plankton and tdo pellets.
Nitrate of 25 or less very acceptable

Bring that down and assure you are not getting reading error.
Some causes: Over feeding, filtration issue, Use of tap water and high inorganics. Check skimmer if you use one

To Lower: Do daily water changes of 3-4 gallons for two weeks, reduce amount fed, adding macro algae and carbon dosing with product like NoPox. Also vinegar dosing at 25 ml per day for several weeks will slowly bring it down

My take on LFS fish is that I leave them there for at least a week. LFSes here do not give guarantees.

I'd feel better buying the fish online from a reputable dealer honestly.
