Need some Apex help

hello Tech savy reefers,
I’m purchasing a used Apex system and I had a few questions I was hoping you could answer

1: I know I need to keep the PH probe in water but do I also need to keep the ORP and salinity probe in water while transferring it to the new tank ???

2: will I need a password from the person I am buying it from to setup fusion ???

3: the person had it set up very similar to how I will be using it. should I restart everything and just program it from the ground up or can I just hook it up to my tank, plug everything into the same outlets that he did and adjust accordingly???

2: will I need a password from the person I am buying it from to setup fusion ??? Get them to remove the apex from their fusion and you setup your own account

You will have to program everything if they reset, which I would do.

1. I would keep all of these probes wet. Ship wrapped with wet cotton and shrink wrap or taped small baggie with water taped to the probe to prevent leaks.

2. The person you're buying from will need to remove it from their fusion account so that you can add it to yours. If he had only one controller, he can just give you access so that you can modify the account.

3. You can go either way, just review all the programming already on the unit. - save your config once done.

Congrats on you purchase.

1. Yes, I would recommend to keep all probes wet, since i'm sure it'll be a short transfer of tanks.
2. I would recommend setting up a new account, best to double check with Neptune
3. It's almost plug n play set up. Keeping the same outlets is/will facilitate things for sure, unless you have a lot of patience?

I agree with the above with the exception I would wipe the brain. While it will be easier to use his coding, you won't know exactly how it works, why something is written the way it is, or how to fix issues in the coding, if you don't code it yourself.

Just a quick note that the while pH and ORP probes definitely need to be kept wet the salinity probe does not. It’s not a problem to let that one dry out.

You also might want to get a set of pH an salinity calibration solutions so you can calibrate the probes when you add them to your tank since it’s likely that they haven’t been calibrated for a while. You need two for pH (7.0 and 10.0) and one for salinity (53ms) and I think they’re only $2 or $3 each.

I have absolutely no idea. I’ve been using an apex for more than four years now and measuring ORP on my tank that whole time because the probe came with the apex. Two nights ago took out my probes to clean them and it occurred to me that not once during the time I’ve owned an apex have I looked at or done anything with the ORP number. I decided not to reconnect the ORP probe.

You don't need to know the ORP. If you don't want to use that probe, just leave it disconnected and turn it off on the Fusion Inputs page.

pH and ORP probes should always be kept wet. Saltwater is ok, but probe storage electrolyte solution is better.
Salinity and temp probes can be left dry without issue.,

Even if your setup will be similar to the previous owner's, it's still better to set the unit back to factory default.
You can then follow the normal 'Get Started' procedure without running into problems, including connecting to a new Fusion signin.
Setting it up yourself also teaches you a few basics about operating the Apex.
Also prevents accidentally overlooking something that applied to the prior owner's system but not yours.
The more you know about how your Apex functions, the better prepared you'll be for any unexpected issues.
