Hi everyone,

My name is Jim and I just moved from Myrtle Beach, SC and after 5 years we moved back to PA in the Fleetwood area. The house we purchased had two large aquariums. The prior owner said he was going to relocate the fish and low and behold we had settlement and he did not relocate them. He left a note saying the automatic feeder has food in it and to clip an algae sheet to the tank wall once a day. From our understanding, two owners ago of the house was a builder, lived in the house and loved salt water aquariums. We love the fish as they are absolutely beautiful however, I travel a lot both domestic and international and unfortunately do not have time to take care of the aquarium. I did try to reach out numerous times to a local exotic fish place for two weeks and kept getting told they would call me since the time we have been here. I never received a call.

On Saturday, 8/30 I was able to contact someone who has been an avid salt water enthusiast for more than 20 years. He was so knowledgeable and helped me understand how to fill the tub in the basement with water as the water level was getting low and I was getting concerned about the fish and pumps.

The gentleman informed us that we have some beautiful fish in the aquarium. There are 2 large clams, a very large snail with other smaller snails and little star fish, Yellow Belly Hippo Tang, One Spot Foxface, Hawaiian Yellow Tang (he told me is very rare), Clownfish, Diamond Goby, Wrasse (tealish/yellow/orange, can never find him/her unless during the evening), and a coral banded shrimp. Unfortunately, his aquariums are full but provided me Reef2Reef as a resource.

The gentleman who came said the tank is in pristine condition with no scratches. The tank measures 72"L x 25.5" W x 24" high.

We also have a tank that is in our downstairs finished basement that is currently empty. That tank measures 10ft 10" L x 30"H x 37.5" W. From our understanding the original owner of the house had a small shark.

There are also smaller tanks, drums, pumps, UV lights, etc, etc..

We would like to sell everything and need some guidance on how to go about this and what all to do. We would not ship, removal is at the sole responsibility of the buyer.

Any help and support anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the long post, but we don't know a thing about taking care of them and would love for them to have a forever home. We truly are not diminishing what all you do as we find it absolutely remarkable with what all goes into the hobby.

Warm regards,

Jim

Hey there, welcome to Reef2Reef! If you want to sell locally. Contact your LFS, which might be able to take some of the stuff off your hands. You can also try getting in contact with local clubs in the area by using Facebook Groups. There should be a good bit of reefer in your area (just my guess). Good luck with everything!

Hi Jim, welcome to Reef2Reef. Sorry you got unexpectedly thrown into this, but first of all I want to say thanks for doing the right thing by trying to learn all you can, and get these animals to a safe home.

There's a fairly active Facebook group called "Southeastern P.A. saltwater reef aquarium classifieds and discussion" (it's a mouthful). The group is pretty far-reaching in PA and into New Jersey. You should be able to sell/trade/donate the equipment and inhabitants fairly easily. Here's the link:

Personally, I'm in Lancaster, and while I'd love to adopt some of those you listed, my tank is a few weeks away from being ready.

Best of luck!

Thank you for this information. I requested to join the FB group and will do some posting on there to see if anyone is interested.

Please keep me posted when your tank is ready should I still have them. You are not far from me at all.

Warm regards,

Jim

Sounds good! I'll be in touch, and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Just resurrecting this out of curiosity. 10’ tank, yes please
