Added Red Sea salt for the first time and almost immediately my purple nem closed up almost completely. Is this normal?
When you say added salt, I hope you mean pre mixed water? And not neat salt?

Was salt mixed/diluted/ set to temperature same as display tank and salinity measured?

Sounds like water may have been either cold or saltier than tank salinity for which it Would close up

Well... what exactly does that mean when you say "added"?

Was your salinity low and you just dumped it into the tank?

Was Red Sea a change from a different salt that you used during a water change?

Too much change, they don’t like that.
Hope that wasn’t black bucket, it pushes 11.5alk, bet that would PO him.

Posting ALK results and salinity would be good. In my experience, Nems are sensitive to ALK levels.

If your ALK is high, you might consider doing a water change.
