Yes, you can. You would also need a power supply for the trident. But this would operate as the brain.

My trident is brand new so I’m sure it has a power supply

I used it with an EB832, which acts as the power supply. I may have an extra stand alone one, though. I'll check.

The one I have is actually a 24v one for the Trident. The Apex base unit uses a 12v.
