So ,I am going to pull the trigger on setting up a spare DOS for doing automatic water changes for my 180g reef tank. i want to change 10% a week with a little done every day.

My 55 gallon Saltwater holding tank is out in my garage, near my RO/DI mixing station. This sits about 50ft away from where my sump/tank is located. I guess my first question is, should I mount the DOS out near the mixing station and run a long Aquabus cable out to it, along with the water lines, OR should I mount the DOS under the tank, near the sump and keep the Aquabus run short, and just run water lines the 50ft?

Thanks for any thoughts.

old dos, or quiet drive? old dos, as far away as possible from ear shot. heard good things about qd dos noise levels, so i'd keep in in the most monitorable location. I've got some stuff on a pretty long aquabus cable with no issues.

Either works. I would opt for the path of least damage should I run into a water leak. I have run a 70' aquabus cable to the garage and it worked fine. 50 feet should be no issues if you go that route.

Probably goes without saying that after you calibrate it just use 2 5 gallon buckets to test. Just keep the installation as you would, full length lines, and run a small test. Calibration is key then a dry run. Well, 2 or 3 gallon test.

I was originally replaying with the link below to say here is how you do it, but I re-read it and see that you had specific questions :). Having said that Suncrestreef did a great tutorial if you haven't seen it. I put the John Guest fittings on all of my DOS units and love them.

Where do you get a 70ft aquabus cable? I'd love to get a 60ft one.

I will need to find the exact link as I purchased it a couple of years back. I believe this was the place. If you search Neptunes has come up a few times with people asking about using standard USB cords. Russ / Neptune will clear the air on those specifics.

I use mine to put a EB832 out in the garage. I have not had any issues but not doing anything amazing really. When time allows do a couple of searches and see if anything makes sense to you that works.

Have a good one.
