FWIW, I am using this light on a 36 x 36 tank. At 12" from the surface I get 300 par in the center of the tank running it at 70%. I get 100 in the corners of the tank on the sand bed. This should be able to cover a 40 x 40 being hung a little lower than 12". from the water (which is pretty high) and at higher intensities. I took those PAR measurements last week and again yesterday.
