My daughter is 18 - she graduated in June. She's been saving for several years, with the plan to travel the world after school. Well.. she's doing it! She set out last night for Peru for 2 weeks!
This is a 'practise trip' and if it goes well she is planning to go to France and Italy next year. She has only flown once, to California on a dance trip with 50 people she knew and chaperones. She's never navigated an airport on her own and has never travelled internationally. And she has GAD which she's spent years overcoming.
My husband & I dropped her & her backpack off at YVR last night. She flew to Toronto then Newark, and now she's over the Caribbean Sea with 4 hours to go. She has a driver and a first hostel booked, a Peru Hop ticket and her backpack.
I am SO excited for her! She's living the dream she's had for so many years and she's worked so hard for it! It'll be a big challenge for her but I know she's ready. Yet as I watch the little 'blip blip' on the flight tracker I can't help being a nervous mamma too!
