How old is your tank? At about 6 months I went through a period where I had to dose nitrates to keep them measurable. After a couple of months of that, they started to climb on their own and I haven't had to dose in over a year now.

It's a year and a half old, a little over a month ago nitrates were always around 5ppm then I added 10 drags at once and within a month nitrates went from 5 to 0. Not sure if it was the frags or not but that's when I took Randy's advice to dose ammonia.
