can coral grow on bone? i'm wanting to take a European deer head mount and use the deer skull as the center piece in a 60g cube, and have coral grow on the skull and antlers with a couple perching fish (frog, scorpion, or hawk) any ideas or suggestion would be great. i want to make that deer head pop with color, if it is possible (might be trial and error)

thanks for your time

You can grow coral on basically anything, as long as you attach it with superglue or something.
I would suggest cleaning the bones first.

I think the bone may break down and get soft over time. I do know someone that did this with a freshwater cichlid tank. Those fish picked that skull clean. He didn't keep it in the tank very long though. Not sure why. Maybe bored with it.

Welcome to R2R Geoff and very interesting first post! I too agree you'll likely be able to grow coral on it, but just make sure it's cleaned very well prior to installation. Not sure of the long-term effects on the bones/antlers so you'll have to keep us posted if you go for it!

Awesome idea, though I think the bone will degrade over time. As far as corals ? They will grown pretty much anywhere once flies on. If you want it covered with color glue some entrusting corals on it like a superman monti and the like

Definitely a good idea to add rock for filtration imo. You wouldn't want to have to use sponge filters if possible.

You could creatively stack the skull on top of the rock hiding as much as possible as the main feature of the tank.
