New lights. advice needed

Hello, I have been taking care of a buddys reef tank for awhile. Its 8feet long, 3foot high, and 2 feet wide. He has some old leds blue/white only no lenses and 12 39watt t-5s over this tank built into hood. Well I have not been getting good results with many coral. They either slowly die or just exist and not thrive. All params are correct etc. So we are redoing the lighting system. Want to go halide and t-5. But not sure how many and wattage. The way the canopy is made, its split in the middle. So have 2 sides to work with and do not connect. Pretty much 4ft x 2ft x 2. Any help or advice? Want to make this install pretty easy. Thanks.

If we are going with a DIY here, you want 4 Halides of 250w under that hood. Preferably using LumenBright Reflector for a Single ended bulb or the Reefstar HQI Reflector for the Double Ended lamp.
