I just got this male and female lyretail 2 days ago. The female is eating fine. I feed 3 types of frozen foods. The male who has been a little shy is finally coming out to eat. He is very excited about eating and tries everything but spits it back out. Any suggestions?

What are you feeding? How big is the food (you may have to chop/grind it up a bit)? Are there any stressors/aggressive fish you may have noticed?

I brought home a trio of fairly small lyretails (1.5”- 2.5”) and they were doing the same thing with mysis/brine/pellets while in QT. My LFS recommended Reef Nutrition R.O.E and they loved it. Once they were added to the DT I mixed in the ROE with everything else I fed the tank, and now they eat everything

Thanks, I went back to the store and bought $100 worth of every food available. He is starting to eat and swallow some pemysis, R.O.E and believe it or not flake food 🤷‍♀️. He is also eating some pellets that I soaked in garlic oil. He has a huge appetite and as long as he doesn't spit things back out we will be ok.

Good luck! Hoping my larger female starts to transition to male soon, jealous of yours

Thanks he is actually starting to eat more each day. I am giving him flakes and pellets in the morning (which I don't normally feed and never thought he would go for that) to a mixture of 6 different frozen foods in the evenings. PEmysis is his favorite of them all.
