Following - I have a nuvo 10 so excited to see how your tang grows. That’s ridiculous about the beer refractometer! This is the second build thread I’ve seen where that happened.

What is your new lid? I am looking for a new one for my 10

I bought the DiY Innovative Marine kit, and ya the beer meter was frustrating! haha

pink birds nest I’m scared for him biggest concern is high nitrates 40 or so the fuzzy stuff seems to have “browned up” the tips are white I’ve read that’s growth but came like that.

He’s about 1” under water surface, light is 10” above 10% whites 70% blues no idea par.

Also I generally only turn whites on when viewing the tank.

I’m guessing there is nothing to worry about for these next three, hardy corals. GSP fully open 48 hours after dip.

Would love some advice on these next two, mushroom first, he is always balling up and making that ridge you see, flow is pretty low but not directly under shade (like in the dark) should I move him into full shade?

And this torch coral is confusing he opened up fast but another reason I think my lights are too high is ONE tentacle went transparent and next day was gone “ I think”. Maybe it was damaged but beyond that some of the other tentacles have “lightened up” becoming clear in a sense so I have dialed lighting down a bit. he is in middle of tank gentle flow.

And if I stare really hard and closely it seems on the inside I’m seeing brown as if I’m seeing the zoxanthelle maybe that was burnt.

This picture doesn't accurately represent the torch the stems are definitely more green and tips are darker purple.

Finally got a pistol shrimp! He has redesigned the entire tank over night : D

Yellow watchman replacement, really wanted pink spotted but didn’t wanna wait lol diamond sand shifter is probably next and last fish not sure yet.

Other options 6 line wrasse maybe a cool invertebrate that will help keep tank clean. Idk

Oh also they paired up overnight first night while i was sleeping! They were on opposite corners of tank but woke up to them together under the rock you see in FTS. Although they're main house at the back wall and im guessing quite extensive already!

I haven't talked about the damsals much guess it's kind of sad, my original one is being bullied by a replacement. I tore the rocks out almost broke the tank to catch him and gave him a time out withholding my true anger but that didn't do much. Not sure what i'm going to do about it but he keeps the smaller damsal in a corner. They have 2 completely different personalities it seems.

Holy moly so I’ve seen the pistol shrimp grab tiny snails and take them into his den, I wasn’t sure if he was using them to build his house or eating but I think I know now.

He just did it again and shorty after I hear loud clicking at first I thought my glass was crAcking but now I’m quite sure he just murdered it! Crazy is this normal for everyone else?! I’m gonna run out of snails fast I guess!

Added a Finnex hang on back refugium.

Pods and Chaeto will be here in a week hoping Chaeto will grow I’ve seen many don’t have success at least not right away. It’s also gonna be the mean damsals new home.

Pistol shrimp has fired off 100 rounds in the last hour he might be murdering for fun at this point.

Chaeto added to HoB refugium, growing well it seems, I leave the blues on always and run the whites opposite of display light schedule.

Corals defiantly agitated torch isn’t opening up I’m thinking either he’s irritated by algae or because alk 6dkh / cal 360 / mag 1200 ish. (Neglect)

Before and after pics of pink birds nest, polyps never come out but did when I first got him. Also still can’t figure out this mushroom Sometimes he “balls” up and there are brown spots any ideas? Don’t know if it’s an algae or burnt from light or disease but doesn’t look right.

Update: Picked up clip on lense to take better pictures. All these have been through so much surprised they are still alive!

I believe my chaeto problems are related to topping off water and dosing in the hob, Cheeto therefor being somewhat sensitive especially to salinity. Will try again eventually.

Endlessly messing with flow and light to try and find what I and the tank agree on : P

Dirty update, my water is still 6 tds or so, and ugly things are growing because of that :D it seems whatever is in the water will grow into long filamentous strands but more interesting is the black algae that grows in my hob refugium.

and so until I add a d/I filter i justreset my refugium every couple weeks takes like 5min. Corals definitely don’t like being covered in algae though.
So far loving the hobby though : )

LFS got a awesome rose bubble tip in will be picking up this Sunday if it’s still there.

Two things I’m unsure of though is why the tissue on this Duncan stem is receding, although it seems to have stoppedz

And this little colony of Paly‘s which seems to be being invaded by feather dusters, I’ve noticed the stems getting skinner and they just don’t look as glorious as they did before.

Thinking I have dino's not sure if it's because of a lack of bio diversity, can't imagine it's because of low nutrients although they did come right after a water change.

Close up, old photo. On an unrelated note pH has been 7.4-7.8, probably 7.8 but not sure cause API is hard to read I wasn’t sure why anyways BRS new video on alkalinity solved my problem. I had been hovering around 7 dkh and once I raised it to 8 with that “extra” bicarbonate my pH is now 8.2-8.4 easy. Super excited, haven’t noticed any immediate effects but time may tell.
