Hello my name is Melanie and I am new to the saltwater aquarium hobby. I have had 20g Red Sea max nano cube for about a month now and really enjoy it. The aquarium has made it very easy to get started. I bought live rock at my local fish store and I noticed I have this little pinkish purple things on my rock. Does anyone know what those are? I am excited to start this hobby and look forward to contributing to the community.

Not sure of the purple stuff, if it is true live rock and been in a seasoned tank, it may be Coraline Algae. Were those zoa's on the rocks when you got them?

Correction: palythoa

They were but they were purple and not as tall yet and I wasn’t really sure what they were. I’m excited for them because it’s a nice surprise.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!!!

If you are talking about the circled things those are some type of palythoa coral.

thank you for the information. I was talking about those. I got my live rock from a local fish store and it had purple on it that was a little different than the coralline algae on the rock. I didn’t expect it to be a palythoa.
