I am thinking about upgrading to one of the new Red Sea Max S LED series setups. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? Thoughts? Enough flow, light for SPS?

I have the original S-400 with the T5 canopy since spring 2013.

Just ordered the Led upgrade kit today from my lfs.

Do you still want to ask questions? :)

Yes, thanks for the response. What corals do you have in your tank? Did you add any extra pumps, ecotechs etc? Do you have any pics?

I have a mixed reef. I traded in a lot of my SPS plating corals because they got so big they were cutting down my water flow causing too many dead spots.

I have the original 10 bulb t5 canopy and you can grow anything (anywhere) under it.
I just ordered the led kit from my lfs today and it will be in mid next week.

Hold on and I'll be right back with more info in a min :)

Thanks man. Are you happy with it? Anything you would change or wish they did different?

Alright, It's got all the flow you'll need. Don't buy the super tiny gain sand with it. "Sand Storm" :)

Have you seen one up close and in person (Like the cabinet aluminum bracing) ?

Well, In the past... I had my tanks built custom for me by "Oceanic Systems".
I saw the S Series for the first time in spring 2012. The Overall quality is wonderful. The stand is really aluminum cross beams that will last a lifetime and the panels just hold on to the beams.

You have almost total water surface overflow skimming. Your auto top off water reserve is below the overflow :)
Counting the stand. You can't get a custom made for that price.

The C Skim factory skimmer is the only weak link. First off people try to dial in a skimmer from day one. There is no organics in a reef to push a skimmer until about 8 weeks. It will dial in and did a great job for me. The weak link is that it's a loud skimmer.
So after the first year my wife said..."I want a totally quit den. So I bought a Bubble King.

I've been watching the led's at my (lfs) for about 10 months. The owner and I have been close friends since 1989. He told me to hold off on the led's and let him prove them out first. Well, He gave me his blessing on the led kit today.

My may want to replace the skimmer down the line or add a Gyre pump for cross flow but I think there the best quality for the money plug and play setups on the market :)

Thank you so much for the great information! Really appreciate it! Good to know about the skimmer.
