I am actually against these home grown corals unless they stay in our tanks. I have seen a lot of folks crowing about growing corals in the lab for "Fixing" wild reefs.

My heartburn with this concept is simple. Genetic manipulation, or artificial selection for our home purposes I have no problem with. I believe that natural reefs have been able to survive for a long time before we even knew they were a thing in the ocean. We don't have enough understanding of how they survived without our help and until we do, we should leave them alone and not select for genes we think are proper and then outplant them into the ocean to fix a thing we don't even half-way understand.

Carp were introduced to control weeds, snakes, rats, and mice and our own dear Lion Fish have been introduced by accident or on purpose in various novel habitats and the results of these manipulations are fairly well understood to have catastrophic impacts, many of those unexpected and irreversible.

Please:
Keep these corals in home tanks and enjoy them where they belong!

I also don't want to be stirring the pot or down playing the achievements of others, just trying to inject some healthy caution into the thoughts of the reefing community. Thank you.

Why do you think that?

The web site says nothing about gene editing and they actually seem to not even know the lineage of the corals in at least some cases.

well, if they arent others are, I assumed they were, thats my bad , I know of several others doing what I described to track how coral spawns and regen areas etc

Steinhart was the one I was thinking about. Someone did a youtube video on their systems and to some extent their procedures.
I have seen some of the stuff from Richard Ross too.
