Pic?

A pic might be helpful. Minor deviations from what some people would run, but nothing is really off with your parameters.

Is the tank under a year old? Whats temp and how is it controlled?
Tank was upgraded almost exactly a year ago from a 15 year old tank. Temp is a rock solid 78 controlled by a chiller.

Can too much flow cause this?

What are the “minor deviations”?

Not a big deal but calcium and mag are a little high for my taste but wouldnt cause this.

If the coral is in direct flow of a strong powerhead, yes IMO this can do it. Especially if the powerhead is covered in algae too. I experienced this phenomenon recently. I have a bali green slimer that has grown to be in directly in front and about 4 inches away from a MP40. The MP40 was covered in coraline and some brownish algae on the output and the parts of the coral that were getting hit by the direct flow were dying and had that same brownish algae on it. All I did was clean the vortech and the coral is starting to heal itself.
