New tangs: Convict & Blue hippo

And we've had another powder blue before, as well as an orange shoulder, and they did absolutely fantastic. The powder blue was from divers den though and these weren't.

This is the damage the convict has done to itself. It is staying in this little cave hiding.

Other than the bellus with what seems to be a swim bladder issue, no other fish are acting weird or any fast breathing. Only these 2 tangs.

For the most part just heavy breathing though. Makes me think it's parasites.

Went to get the blue tang out just now and she shot across the tank. Full panic mode and breathing heavy. So obviously she wasn't dead yet, but I don't see how it's gonna recover from this behavior.

Heavy breathing, darting……that might account for other losses as well.

Yeah I think we're just getting parasite infested fish lately. Odd that it's mostly only been tangs but I guess they are more susceptible.

Hopefully they turn around but not looking good. Our previous PBT was such a bully, we gave it away. But it was such a healthy, beautiful tang. Our orange shoulder was also like a puppy, but outgrew our tank.

Haven't had any tang success since those 2.

FWIW I’ve read mostly good things about ReefBeauties.com. Their prices are lower than most and my order of a Desjardini, Melanurus wrasse, and Midas Blenny was healthy, well packed, and there was even a scrawled “Thank you, Sam” on the packing slip.

But for thin-coated tangs, I’ll probably go pre-QTed rather than try to do it myself. I’m doing that with a clown tang. It’s being QTed for two weeks in copper and hyposalinity.

I've had good luck with reef beauties as well.

Our lfs has very good blue tangs in stock. We're gonna go pick one up Friday. We'll be able to check them out in person, so I'm happy. We got a full refund on both of these fish due to how awful the packaging was.

We got a live aquaria gift card for Christmas so we ordered them from there. We've usually had good experiencesn, but this one was awful.

First shipment, no Styrofoam, just a nearly open thin cardboard box with newspaper. Water was ice cold. 30 degree Arkansas temps and no heat packs. Shrimp I thought were dead, convict was barely swimming, and the tiny blue tang was on its side. We ordered a medium 3-4" and received a 1" blue.

The shrimp made a full recovery, but the blue tang died quickly and I'm suspecting this convict won't be around much longer.

Completely free replacement sent the next week. 40-50 degrees outside. A Styrofoam box this time, but no heat packs, and probably a 2" blue tang.

I will say one of their reps was more than helpful and told me to keep her posted.

I'm gonna just simply ask for a refund and not use them anymore. 2 shipments in winter with no heat packs and smaller than ordered fish has rubbed us the wrong way.

AHhh thanks for posting who it was. I've been looking at ordering a purple tang & blue hippo from them. Your post got me looking into other reviews about them..annndd Ill pass now lol hopefully they get it straightened out for you.
