Moving from a 29 gallon cube that's been established for 8 years to a 80 gallon I will use the Triton method on the new tank and have set everything up with this in mind. As of now i have 80LB of live sand in the new tank I moved about 40Lb of live rock from the old tank to the new and added about another 50LB of cured dry rock and brought over 15 gallons of water from the old tank to the new and added microbelift niteout II for good measure and I have a single clownfish brought over from the old tank I have the 10 times turnover big sump for chaeto with a grapefruit size ball and led grow light with the red and blue spectrum set for 8 hours at night have a skimmer that's rated for 100 gallons heavy load and running media reactors with carbon and Purigen main light is the current marine IC. my goal is definitely for a ULM tank with inverts softys and maybe some hards in the future.

so next night and finally have water in it and my skimmer that i have held onto for the last 5 years leaks everywhere I'm a bit ashamed to admit that it learned to fly and now is retired like the company that made it lol. so i ordered a ice cap 120 to replace it ive also learned of the kirby method over flow and have ordered gate valves to do this.

Got my media in love Amazon same day delivery! Also my light came in and I decided I liked it I too if the tank rather than hanging what do you guys think? It is a lot brighter and cleaner looking but that could also be because it’s the IC model tank got cloudy during the day hope that’s normal been so long since I did this and never started a larger tank off another one.

So after a week and a half it started to work but it was randomly noisy as hell and the company’s tech support never gave me a manual and would answer my emails with 1 line answers that were definitely canned responses I’ve order 2 other brands and will report which one I keep.

The first skimmer has come in I’ve not had much info about it but reviews on Amazon are great and seen a few article here that would suggest it works right away I’ve notice compared to the ice cap it has a built in air adjustment on the silencer it’s a dc controllable pump quality is nice the flow adjustment knob is stiff to where I’m not worried I’ll axidently bump it like on the icecap this is the IOAOI PS150 $240 on Amazon came with instructions is easy to take apart seems like a dc controllable aqua max in design I think it may be the one I keep waiting on the 3rd to come in monday

So of the 3 skimmers I ordered the icecap the ioaoi and the reef octopus I’ve chosen the ioaoi the quality is amazing for the price it’s stupid quite and it was making skimate in 6 hours and is super adjustable with adjustments for air intake water outflow level and pump speed super easy to clean and work on
