Hey all. Building a mixed reef tank. 135 do, 30 gal sump.
So far I have the tanks. Return pump, Rock, sand, RODI filter. Ordered a heater today.

Question: what do consider the bare minimum to get cycle going? Do I need my flow pump and skimmer? Or can I get this puppy cycling and get more equipment as budget allows?

I would add the sand, rock, flow, heater and get that thing cycling! I would start the return and get water going threw there and add wave makers when you can.

This right here. Skimmer not needed to cycle, it wouldn’t pull anything out and aeration is not really an issue when cycling, as long as you have some flow going.

You can cycle in anything. You could drop your rock into a brute trash can with a power head and cycle there. When it is cycled, you could just put the rock in the tank and fill it with new salt water. Instant 100% water change. Just don’t let the rock dry out after cycling.
