I am in the market for a new tank…got up this morning and found a nickel sized chip in my glass. I have a IM 25 lagoon and looking to go a bit bigger with an external overflow. Not sure if Red Sea still has a bad wrap for tanks failing but any suggestions on brand would be much appreciated.

That's a bummer for sure, sorry that happened to your tank. I also have the IM 25 lagoon, so I feel for you 🙂

I'm going to say that yes, RedSea is still not as reliable as others, this was just being discussed this morning and there was a brand new failure reported just today too:

I'm going to suggest another IM, I've never owned one of their larger tanks, but I've had several from 10-25 gallons, and I very much like them all.

Certainly, there's a lot of other manufactures to choose from too, and I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions here.

Good luck!

I hate that this happened to you. Normally clam-shell chips are not an issue, but you need to be comfortable with you tank. Here is a link to one of several threads on R2R about similar chips: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/help…clam-shell-chip-in-120.977469/
It’s hard to see but there is a slight crack that is going to the back side of the front panel. It’s going to fail it’s just a matter of when.

Good catch! I didn’t see that in the picture. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Crappy part is I don’t even have a lfs here or any friends that have tanks to house my stuff. I’m so bummed…these 2 dumb dumbs just started hosting my gsp and my grandson loves the tank.

Do you have room to set up a stock tank or tote? Doesn't have to be fancy just water heat flow and light for coral. You could move everything over temporarily until you get another tank up then move everything in and you shouldn't even have to worry about cycling.
As to brand i have RS, IM and WB and the only one I wouldn't recommend is RS. My first RS is in the scrap pile and I'm keeping a close eye on my remaining one.
