New Tent

My wife needs a single person tent and does not like my choices (Army ICS). What do you guys recommend for her?

For backpacking or car camping? Serious camper or more or less single use? Budget? A little camping trip in Florida or the cold outreaches of Alaska?

Can't beat an ICS if you truly want a single, lightweight, backpack tent. I always used a two-man so I had room for my rather large backpack. The times I wanted to go as light as possible, it was a string hammock (and if I knew it was going to rain, a plastic fly was put up using some cord. The one issue with this last one is that I had to find two trees the right distance apart.

I also always liked popups, but they could add a bit of weight and space to the pack.

4 seasons probably (FL, GA, Tenn...). More for camping/hiking, lightweight enough to carry but durable to last years. Price is negotiable, I am a buy once cry once person.

She likes the Eureka Solitaire which to me is a colorful USMC pop-up

OK, now I have a very clear picture of your wife's needs, here's my very strong recommendation......repeat after me "Yes dear, excellent choice!!!" :eek::eek::eek::eek::cool:

So maybe next time she'd go for a two-man tent and you could join her. :rolleyes:

I like hammocks for warmer weather .

I like hammocks for camping plus I'm up off the ground .

To be honest I have never camped in one. I sleep in the yard in the backyard sometimes but I have not went into the woods with one....

I’ve got a kammok hammock I really like. As mentioned, got to find yourself a couple trees. I use a marmot 2 man tent for myself. It’s a 3 season tent 2 pole set up. I really like it.

You shouldn’t need a 4 season tent in those areas. 3 season should do the trick unless you’re camping in snow on a ridge top.

Those nerds at rei will juice you up. They also have an rei brand that looks pretty sturdy and the price is right.

i have a big agnes UL 1 for backpacking. Awesome and super lightweight.

The reason for the 4 season tent is because my wife has family in Boston. I am a Florida native, never camped in snow before so it is on my bucket list. Then again it might be so cold I pack up and head back down to humid florida.

No one camps in Boston in the winter.
Even the homeless go into shelters. :-(

Go in August and notice how cold it is. (74°) Bring a light jacket for the wind.

Lol, born in Massachusetts. Now in Virginia.
The mid August thing was a real visit.
Was enjoying the beach and seeing family and thinking "When things warm up this will be real nice!"

Followed by "It's *August* idiot! This is as warm as it gets."

Ocean water 61°, maybe, by early September, but it's already too cold to be in a bathing suit cause 61° is also the air temp. :-(

Looking at an Esee 5, it will be in my get home bag I keep in my truck and for my wife when we go camping.

About 2 years ago my wife bought me the Tops Baja 4.5 for Xmas, that is when I knew i had to marry her.

Both are very nice knives. My first knife Heather my gf at the now wife bought me Ontario Air Force Survival Knife. She bought it for me while I was in the AF and she wanted me to have what the pilots used. She's a keeper

The first time Jennifer wanted to buy me a big gift, "I can't afford to buy a new gun so send me some knife ideas"...."Holy crap these cost as much as a gun"

3 years later she still wonders where does funding come from for the tank. dogs, truck, hobbies and npw a house reno.....i tell her it is the secret of the universe lol
