New to R2R and problem

Nitrite is still safe. What happens if it gets high? What do I do?
 
Research Diatoms! A natural occurrence in all new saltwater setups. At the moment yours is light. It could stay that way or get 10x worse. Either way it is the ugly stage of reefing with no reason to panic. We've all had em!
 
That looks like diatoms to me and that's pretty normal for new tanks. Slow down, the swings until the tank is completely cycled and stable (2-6 months) can kill fish off. Start slow and be prepared to do large water changes of something goes awry
