Hey guys,

Been around aquariums and ponds since I was a kid, but new to Saltwater.
My wife and I are starting our 40 gallon saltwater build, and just wanted to share our progress and get some tips on the way.

I got a Seapora Rimless Tank from BigAls. 30x18x18

I decided to build my own tank stand as it seemed pretty easy and I could save a bunch.

Here it is, just gotta add a couple of support beams and a 3/4" plywood top. The tank also comes with a leveling foam pad so I think I dont need to add another pad on top of the plywood....unless you guys suggest it?

Today I will be wrapping it with some paneling and complete the stand.

This weekend I will be purchasing a Fluval 407 canister filter/pump, and also a Fluval 32w light as I plan to have corrals.

Light:

Filter:

and finally going to purchase pre-mixed salt water and try to get the cycling started by Sunday.

Let me know what you guys think. Am I missing any steps or if you guys have any suggestions/suggestions for alternative products, please let me know!

Best advice I can offer is invest in some quality live rock from the ocean such as KP aquatics stuff. Also I’m sure someone will say to ditch the canister filter but I did run one in the mid 2000’s and it did fine for some flow and a place to put some floss. Good luck.

Update:
Finished my tank stand, now I am just putting everything together. Hooked up the Fluval 307, and Will be filling up with water sometime this week.

(Excuse the dirty door, needs to be painted)
