With a young family my hobbies have begun to shift a little bit. Grew up heavy in fishing/boating/diving so I have always admired saltwater fish / corals / reefs but never had a tank. With Covid and a new born And a 2 year old have found myself at the house a lot more and thought it was time to dive in.

This project started in the wood shop. In order to get the wife to buy off the tank had to fit in with the decor in the living room. Couldn’t find anything to buy that was the right look or color, plus everything was taller than I wanted as I wanted to make sure this was at the right height for the kids.

Statered doing research a while back. Quickly learned you can go down the rabbit hole pretty quick. Figured 38 gallon was a good starting point, plus it fit nicely in the space my wife granted me. If this really sticks like I hoped this tank may one day be a quarantine tank or a refugium. Went with a Fluval 307 because of the quiet nature of the canister filter and a fluval light as well at the recommendation of my LFS.

For my CUC I have been collecting what I can find the last several weeks. Now have 7 Blue Hermits, 2 large red hermits, 2 medium red hermits. 1 med Nassarius Snail, 1 small Nassarius snail, 5 tiny Nassarius Snail, 1 large Zebra Turbo Snail, 1 large Mexican Turbo Snail, 3 Med Turbo Snail, 1 serpent Star.

Basically been collecting what I can find with several stores being sold out due to limited supply and high demand. Been really enjoying watching these critters run around, a lot more than I thought I would.

So far we have the standard pair of “Nemo’s” named Pua and Hee -Hee by my 2 year old daughter. And a canary blenny named “Mahi”. I read blenny’s have a personality which we have really enjoyed, so far ours sleeps on top of our mag float scrubber.

A good buddy of mine bought a new house and downsized his tank, he needed to unload some rock so I was able to pick up a bunch of cool pieces plus a BTA, some mushrooms and other softies. Tank is probably a little young for this but they have been in 6 weeks or so and seems to be doing great.

Canary blenny got attacked by a emerald crab and never recovered, I removed one emerald crab and have been trying to catch the other. I rescued my diamond gobey from one of them and caught them eating a zoa- so they are going to go.

Emeralds are not that big, the bodies are quarter size. I was able to catch the one that I think was really the problem. The other one seems more tame and hides more but if I can ever catch him he is coming out.
