Howdy all!
I've been reefing for 3 years now and can't seem to get anything right. Currently doing fowlr but have a couple zoas. Have a huge cyano issue and don't know how to fix it properly.
I do a 20% WC every 2 weeks and have Seachem's Seagel in the 2 lil fishes reactor. Feeding is light and have leds on for 10 hours a day. I currently use Dr Tim's Waste Away and still have quite the problem.
I saw a vid on cleaning the overflow out since it can be a huge detris catchall.
Some sound guidance would be most helpful.
Thanks, Erik

Wow you do have a problem. Most of these issues are caused by water parameters are out of sink. Have you tested your water? Hope you are using rodi water. Need to know your test results to able to help.

I do only use rodi but haven't tested parameters. Judging by the growth I'm gonna guess phosphates are high. I guess my biggest problem is how to find what exactly is leading to this issue. Water changes won't solve the problem and I don't know where to start. Crushed coral bed is 5-6" and only 1 yr old. Could my 2 powerheads not allow enough water movement or to much?

First thing you need to do is test the water before making any changes. For now i would turn off lights for about three days and see if some of this will die off. Are you using a skimmer?

DO YOU THINK TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS ARE MORE HELPFUL OR HURTFUL TO REEFING?
