I have a 145 gallon display, 40 gallon sump. Running for about 19 months, moderately stocked mixed reef, parameters all very stable over the last year. Fish, corals, and various clean up critters are all fine (minus a couple dead snails over this time which is expected). Before that I’ve been in the saltwater hobby about 10 years. I understand ORP but never found it particularly useful to monitor, and have been pretty successful keeping mostly soft and LPS.
Up until a few weeks ago I ran an Apex A2. Probes are in a mount near the return pump, away from dosing pumps. Ever since I’ve had the tank running, months before starting dosing, the ORP will sharply drop almost precisely at 10:40pm from about 320 to 280, then back up to around 320 over about 20 minutes. During the day it’s stable 317-320. Refugium light runs 9p-9a. No other equipment gets turned on or off around that time.
The A2 crapped out, so I begrudgingly replaced it with an A3 pro (same probes however) and the same thing happens.
Seems a little too consistent and precise to be a probe issue but I could be wrong.
