As strange as this sounds I have to dose with Nitrates. It’s a bit of a trial and error with how much but if I don’t it’s bang on Zero. The question is; every time I dose I get about 1ppm but then rapidly disappears back to zero over a 24 hr period. I suppose the question is why?. Do I assume that the corals we consuming it? I dose via the top up water at 2.5ml per 2 litre of water. Does any one have similar experience on maintaining 2-4ppm Nitrates?

I run sulfur reactor on my system and it keeps nitrates at absolute 0.
So I dose sodium nitrate. I have to keep dosing daily to keep 5ppm otherwise the sulfur reactor will bring it down.
I have my reactor on full blast.
Keep dosing and find the sweet spot.

What product are you using? I am using Brightwell Neo Nitro and 1ml gives me 2.5ppm per 1 gallon just as the bottle says. Make sure and check your Po4. Mine actually dropped and had to start dosing Po4 when I started dosing Nitrate. Chemistry is crazy but my best advice is to just make sure you test frequently and go slowly. Good luck and keep us posted.

getting ready to do this too. just picked up a bottle of Seachem Flourish Nitrogen. No sure if this was the best option but it's what i'm going to start with.
My goals is to bring up Nitrates (which are undetectable with my test kits) in an effort to balance out the PO4 which is rising.

I started out by verifying the dosage amount shown on the bottle. Then I only dosed half the amount actually needed in the tank just to be safe and slowly brought No3 up to 5ppm. My Po4 started out at .273 using hanna ULR tester. After dosing No3 for 2 days the Po4 came down to .049. Make sure you test a lot, the last thing you want is to bottom out Po4 and open the door for more problems.

agreed.

just tested both NO3, and PO4 before I get started.

No3 is maybe .02 to .01. on a Salifert test kit using the low range procedure (looking through the side) it very hard to tell if I'm seeing any colo rat all
PO4 on the other hand is down around .1 to .15 ppm using a Nyos test kit. I had been as high as .3 to .35 but I've been slowly bringing it down with Blue life resins.

I'm going to start with a 1/2 to 1/4 dose of the Flourish to see if that moves any thing My main goal is to basically flip these numbers.
My personal tank looked it's best with NO3 between 5 and 10 and PO4 between .01 an .03
