Hi fellow reefers. Added my first CUC. Combination of different snails, crab, and conch.

Some of the snail are on the glass, all the way on top, with part of the shell not in the water. Is this normal behavior?

Yes, probably trying to stay as far away as possible from the crabs. :p

Be sure your water level isn't too close to the top of the tank (or you have a lid.) Some snails will crawl out.

Thank you. I'll keep an eye out.

Nerite snails are almost famous for climbing up and out! They are escape artists. Watch where you step!

Thank you guys.

Next question. I also purchased five Scarlet Hermit Crabs. I found a red leg today. Ideas what caused the crab to lose it?

Stress, in particular, environmental stress can contribute to crabs losing legs. The up side is that when they molt, the legs frequently grow back!

Not sure if something is wrong or this also normal behavior for the crabs.

One Hermit crab is in the shell. I can see the legs, but no movement. Dead?

The second Hermit crab's body is half way out. I don't see any movement. Also Dead?

The snails are moving all over the glass. The Tonga Fighting Conch are also moving around the sand bed. They seem to be thriving.

I'd pull them out and see if you get any reaction. If they smell bad, they're dead.

Yep, some can be aggressive, they will fight to take the shell from another if they like it more or need a higher shell.

1 dead inside shell. 2nd one dead outside of shell. Can't find 3rd one. Snails and Conch alive and moving around. LFS said they will replace the crabs.

Found the third. Moving around the rocks.

Question. The dead one outside the shell. Live it in the tank or take it out?
