Looking good! following along... I have a 40g similar setup with dry rock, doing fish less cycle. Set up about 3 weeks ago. How long did it take for your nitrites to hit 0 during the cycle? Mine have been stuck in the purples on API test for about a week now. Added a small piece of live rock from reputable local source last night hoping to kickstart the process.

It took about 3 weeks for nitrites to hit (0). Give it another week and you’ll be solid

When the diatom bloom hit I went out and bought (1) Mexican Turbo Snail and (1) Red Tip Hermit to help eat the algae

My tank looks like this after the first 20% water change, blowing the rocks off with a turkey baster and adding a filter sock with filter floss in the sump for 3 days

NOW...

PetCo rescue... Cost me only $20. Pretty much told the manager that all the fish have signs of ICH and will cost me additional for the QT process. I told them this after I was informed that they DO NOT do fish returns on marine animals.

He’s been in QT w/out meds since Wednesday and he looks relatively healthy and eats fine for a PetCo fish.

No signs of ICH, stringy poo, etc...

I like the rock structure. Off to a good start it seems. Looks like two gyres for his powerheads.

Appreciate it!

How many power heads you using?

(1) MP-10 tucked low and behind the scape for backglass circulation, along with (2) MaxSpect Gyre 330’s

Plan is for ultimate flow for LPS/SPS coral. The aquascape has some low flow areas for a few zoa’s/softies as well. Such as the rock island in the bottom front left

I’ve been running @JsReefs light schedule for several weeks now. Definitely worth the try for all who ever has AI Primes...!!! AI makes it super easy to download lighting schedules. Totally appreciate the leg work he put in too!

I'm interested in your skimmer. I am looking at the same ine because of the footprint. You said it worked good the one day, I'll be curious how it is long term.

I'll also be interested how you like the AI primes once you try some coral.

Is the whole tank blacked out minus the front baffle? It looks nice. I can’t tell if it’s dark blue or black

I’m doing a 40g breeder as well. I can’t decide between doing dark blue or black background. I’m thinking dark blue

The Red Octopus Classic 110-S does an excellent job. Really took no time for it to start producing skim.

The 40B has the bottom and backglass painted in matte black...

The 20L sump only has the bottom painted in the same matte black. Baffles aren’t painted. An after thought would be to use colored glass from HobbyLobby. Didn’t know they had glass in so many shades/colors there

Purchased my first LPS Torch from a LFS.

Dipped using Bayer which is now called BIOADVANCED

The 12 minute dip produced some awesome results. Killed a shrimp (scared the crap outta me when basting) and a few bristle worms and some other foreign stuff. Could’ve been flat worms but hard to tell from the debris from basting and scrubbing

2 MONTH UPDATE:

Nitrate (0) API
Phosphate (0) Hanna
Alkalinity (8.5) Hanna
Calcium (467) Hanna
pH (8.2) API

I do have a slight blue-green algae growth in refugium. Nothing overwhelming, just a few spots. Most likely due to low PO4/NO3. The Chaeto hasn’t died since placed in the tank last month but hasn’t grown to a large mass. It’s just maintaining
