Little side project getting my frag tank up and running.

I”ve been debating on what skimmer for this 40-50g total system. Reef Octopus or…?

For lighting, maybe a single Kessil 360X.

Last couple months I've been tweaking equipment. Haven't actually mounted corals yet but soon hopefully.

Running 4 MP40's on back wall was a bit much blowing/bouncing off the front glass even at 25%. So I moved them around making 2 MP40s on each side and 2 MP40's remain on back center. But having a larger tank the cords don't reach to the other side control board. I found some 4' Ecotech extension cables made by local business Aqua Life Studio that works quite well.

I always had light bleed/glare with Radion's with my peninsula tank and the light shields for sale only block one side. This time around I decided trying out the 3d printed light shades from Eric @ Eel River Corals. They work great blocking the intense light while sitting at a nearby couch and while standing at front of tank.

I was afraid the Bubble King DC200 was going to be underpowered with this system but it seems to be working well. Collection cup @ 2 days.

Even though Chaeto is becoming a large ball I'm currently having cyano bloom last week. So I'm adding a BRS reactor to add some GFO/Carbon to see if I can slowly increase to help the Chaeto without nuking it.

My 25G QT frag tank from above. QT period almost up! :)

I took a second look at your lighting and flow. How are you liking the setup? I'd like to do 4 MP40s arranged the same way and go crazy with random flow and creating half hour gyres in each direction.

Clean setup. Love the open cabinet design
So much easier to do maintenance with this design vs traditional close doors.

3 Radion XR30 G5 Blues seem sufficient for mixed corals so far. Just added a bunch on SPS frags a few weeks ago from QT so we'll see how it goes. I like more blues so I cranked up the overall intensity for blues (80%) and less cyan (20%), Lime (10%), red (10%) and white (65%). Kessil's create the shimmer I want at 65% overall intensity and 20% color. This looks less greenish/white.

For pumps, I moved 2 on each side of tank and two on back. The sides are currently at 50% and back at 20% randomly changing every 8 hours between reef crest, lagoon and short pulse. Past 60% appears a bit high causing the torches and gonis to whip although they seem to like it but don't want to cause them to recede. Maybe when they are larger. I also have the Varios 8 return pump at 100%.

Since adding the Octopus 250 int, I was running it at 100% causing my cheato to disintegrate. Currently 250 int is running at 80%, gate valve 5 full turn closed and reduced my BRS GFO/carbon media reactor to 12 hours/day. Phosphate test are showing 0.05 on Hanna! So if this holds maybe I won't use the refugium and convert to an attached clown/anemone tank currently housed in a 10G since it will be have much more stable parameters.
