Hi Everyone,

Happy to be back! I was on the socalireef forum 5 years ago and I took an absent from the hobby due to family got bigger. I'm back now.. I wanted to go bigger (50 gallons) but the wife wanted me to go small for now and upgrade once I can show her I can juggle this tank with life.

SETUP:
- Used 20 Gallon Nano Nuvo Tank with Black APS stand
- 100 watt Heater
- HOBmaxx Version 20
- AI PRIME HD
- Amazon power head (temporary)

Old Tank: http://www.socalireefs.com/index.php?threads/my-45-gallon-jbj-rl-build-thread.66080/

Main Goal:

1. Wanted this tank to be an Anemone tank with a few LPS corals.
2. Will do water changes and no dosing
3. Control water from start to finish (RO/DI system and saltmix)
4. Upgrade to a 50 gallon NUVO tank down the road, so all equipments will be overkill for the tank

Nice. What light schedule and par are you going to run?
Hey great question. I'm going to run a 10 hour schedule. Base off the BRS TV Video I'm going to run 100% for all color except red, green and cool white. So the middle top with an eight inch height should push my par level to 350 and 310 at the substrate

My BTAs ran from 150 PAR, so that seems like a lot to me. I've got an IM 10g with the same light (upgraded LuxEngine LEDs, though). I dialed it back to 125 PAR in the center of the tank (there are spots with higher and lower PAR) and everything is out, open and happy.

Thank you for the feedback. I will definitely dial it back! picking up a BTA this weekend. The 4 weeks cycle is done!

5 Weeks Update:

Alright guys. Tank have been cycled for 5 weeks now. I do about 80% water changes once a week. Picking up a anemone today!

I will get a lot of back lash for throwing an anemone right away but it's 2021 and the husbandry and research has gotten a lot better. My weekly water changes will keep it happy.

Alright guys. Wanted to share my RO / DI setup. Since I didn't want to buy a RO / DI unit and deal with waste water, I get my water from the grocery store standalone machine. The standalone machine gives a reading of 20ppm TDS. I bought a 10 gallon trash can and installed a faucet and bought a used inline canister and bought DI resign from BRS. After my setup I get a reading of 1 PPM TDS.

RO water from store = 20ppm TDS
5 gallon of water = $1.50
Water after DI resin = 1 TDS or 0 TDS (depending on the pressure.)

I have been looking to set up a system like this, I don't want to deal with wasted RO either. Can I ask which inline canister you are using? Also what size are your hoses?

Thanks a lot for your help

Here's a video on how I set it up. Easier to watch it.
The tube size is: 1/4".
The cannister:

Very interested in this one, I have a 24 gallon AIO and upgraded to a bigger tank and I have been thinking about doing something new with the 24 like an anemone tank or maybe even a seahorse tank.

I vote for seahorse tank! Love them but scared to keep them! Can’t wait to see what you do next!

Are you still planning on having some corals in the tank as well? I’m thinking of doing an bta with some corals in my Waterbox 20 when I get it running
