My new skimmer just arrived. Took 5min to put it together. I had been running an old Reef Octopus which was too small for my 130g system. Within minutes it was already pulling garbage from the water. I LOVE this skimmer... well, at least the first few minutes of ownership anyways [emoji4] this thing makes some crazy foam! Not sure what this "break in period" is about, but it's working off the line. I hadn't realized how loud my old skimmer was, but this thing is DEAD silent. I mean not even a hum. Build quality is amazing, it's a beautiful piece of kit. I see no flaws thus far or weaknesses.

After it's first night... incredible! I vastly underestimated just how useless my last skimmer was..I thought my tank was relatively clean. My new skimmer disagrees

I believe your water level is too high in the skimmer. It should be where the cup joins the body of the skimmer. In your first pick of it operating it shows the small bubble and then large ones on top, well at that transition point where the large bubbles are sitting on top of the small should be down to where the cup joins the body. You will get a much thicker foam and the waste will be much darker.

Thank you... I agree. It's a much thicker foam now. I'm still quite taken aback at how dirty my water is/was.

Since raising the skimmer, it's become far better at removing only the yuch. So gross! What a skimmer!!

Just an update... the skimmer is still pulling some nasty **** out. It's a really great piece of reefing kit. I also just added a GFO reactor.

+1 ... water level where the cup and skimmer meets will get you better foaming and darker waste. I was amazed at how thick and darker the waste was after making this adjustment to my NYOS 120.

I've had my NYOS Quantum 160 running for around 6-8 weeks in my Red Sea Max S 650 and it's the best change I've made. Exactly as you said above the stuff it pulls out is amazing and straight out of the box. I'd never seen such black nasty stuff before!

Takes a few weeks to get used to it and dial it in to how you like it. Mine started over skimming around week 4 so I just opened the valve slightly and running very well now with no issues. I have it slightly wetter like 'sludgy tea'.

I have the drain tube into a plastic milk carton as easier to empty and then just clean the skimmer once a week or so.

The skimmer is silent and the craftsmanship simply quality, easy to take to pieces when needed.

Agree with you guys. I've been using the NYOS Quantum 160 for almost a year and it has been a great experience. I only wish the cup was easier to remove. But it works great.

Get some silicone grease and put it around the bottom of the cup were it joins and it will be smooth as silk.

I just had a problem with mine. I sent Ecotech a video showing the problem and they responded quickly and are sending a replacement part. Great service is as important as a good product.

Just thought I'd update again for posterity. Ecotech sent me a new pump which fixed my problem. Didn't cost me a cent and it was done fast.
This is a seriously great skimmer. I have no regrets nor am I second guessing my decision. It pulls lots of seriously foul smelling crap from the water on a daily basis. Zero complaints from me.
