Nyos Torq: Is it me or is it garbage!?

Hi

I am setting up a new tank and was trying out the nyos torq g2 as a carbon reactor.

Is it me or is this thing garbage!?

I added the carbon into the top chamber and its small enough that it slips past the screen and gets everywhere…

I get past that and try running it and it is letting all kinds of carbon past. Good thing i tried this out in a separate bucket…

Is there a secret that i dont know or did i just waste some $$$ on a terrible reactor?

I love Nyos products, but I could never get behind their Torque reactors. I prefer external reactors for media like carbon.

Is there a trick to this thing actually working? Do i need to cut some sponges out and add to keep the carbon contained??

For future reference i did two things to “fix” the issue.

1. Use larger grain or pellet carbon in this. The reefspec carbon by red sea is too fine for this without modifications.

2. I added some sponges to the top and bottom of the tube to help catch any small particulate.

If I was to give this product a grade it would be a B-. Not great to spend money on a premium piece to then have to manually modify it to make it work. Maybe the nyos torq g3 will be worth the $$$.
