I would avoid sand from the beach. Think of it as nature's filter sock. If you can go out a bit to a sandbar or other shallow area and collect from there you'll get better, and very live, sand.

If you decide that you are ok with the risk of what may be in/on the sand, also pay attention to how big or how fine the grains of sand are. Good luck either way!

As I live very near to the ocean in Panama, can I use sand from the pacific ocean, beach sand??
